Vote for the best MMP image of 2009!

As we gear up for the 2010 wedding season, it’s always good to take a look back at all the fun wedding photos and great couples we got to work with in 2009. With that in mind, we thought this might be a fun opportunity for us, the photographers, to pick a few of our favorites. From being behind the camera, our favorites might be inspired by different reasons compared to what the couples might pick, which is why we’ve given a little behind-the-scenes info below. Nonetheless, we weeded down our favorites to 18 images. This was a near impossible process as there are so many great images from all the 2009 weddings, but if we included them all, this post would be a mile long!

So help us out! Vote for your favorite! And tell your friends, your neighbors, your book club to vote too! You can cast your vote, as well as leave comments, at the bottom of this post. We’ll leave the polls open until February 28th, and we’ll give the couple that ends up with the most votes a free print of that image (or another, if they prefer) in any size smaller than 20×30″.

_______

#1 – Keely and Lee, Riviera Maya, Mexico. Keely and Lee were right in the middle of their reception when we noticed a gazebo lit up a blazing blue. We asked Keely and Lee if we could steal them for a minute to get a quick shot outside, and they said sure. We ran outside, threw a remote flash behind them, fired a few shots, and they then ran back to their party. This whole shot happened in about one minute.

#2 – Keely and Lee, Riviera Maya, Mexico. Keely, surrounded by her court, in mid-boogie.

#3 – Sarika and Aaron, Carmel Valley Ranch, Carmel Valley, CA. Sarika’s bridesmaids. The two cultures coming together was not only beautiful on the inside, but stunning on the outside.  It was an honor to be part of it.

#4 – Sarika and Aaron, Carmel Valley Ranch, Carmel Valley, CA. The Fuchsia wedding dress, the tie, the jewels, the henna – a vibrant wedding.

#5 – Christina and Jason, Scopazzi’s Saloon, Boulder Creek, CA. Scopazzi’s Saloon is a piece of history hidden up in the redwoods since 1912. Jay is part of the country band you see behind them, and you wouldn’t believe the powerful emotions that pour out when he is behind his guitar and a mic, singing to his new wife. This shot is of their first (country!) dance.

#6 – Jessica and Mark, Dreams Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. Married maybe 15 minutes in this shot. We caught the very last rays of light.

#7 – Jessica and Mark, Dreams Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. We start the Trash The Dress shoot in the pool. Love how her dress is forming a heart shape.

#8 – Jessica and Mark, Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. Bride + groom + horse + tropical storm + crashing waves = SanDisk moment. Everyone got drenched from the rain and surf, but obviously it was worth it.

#9 – Danielle and Matt, Santa Cruz, CA. Their little blue Datsun is part of their family, so we had to get it as part of their wedding photos! Plus, a few tweaks to the license plate to reflect their anniversary.

#10 – Mila and Shane, Santa Cruz, CA. This photo isn’t staged. This is how Shane’s friends just are. So as you can imagine, it was one fun party!

#11 – Elizabeth and Adam, The City Club of San Francisco, San Francisco, CA. This photo was taken in the landmark City Club of San Francisco, home to an original Diego Rivera painting.

#12 – Veronica and Dave, Burlingame, CA. Classic shot from above at St. Catherine of Siena’s.

#13 – Veronica and Dave, Burlingame, CA. A fun, wild couple that carved out lots of time for photography (thank you!). So, we had enough time to not only go jump around downtown, but wait for the perfect gust of wind to get her vail airborne!

#14 – Rachel and Trevor, Glen Ellen, CA. This shot was taken at Jack London Saloon, late at night, after their wedding had come to a close. A wedding dress pretty much gives you access to anything, so when we walked in and asked if we could take a shot on the pool table, the locals not only made room, but helped with some props (the pool table balls, the placement of the sticks, even the drink in Trevor’s hand is by design). Rachel and Trevor likely thought we had some odd photo ideas, but once we got going, their inner James Bond kicked in!

#15 – Laura and Scott, James Leary Flood Mansion, San Francisco, CA. Their wedding was at the historic Flood Mansion, and we love this shot for the classical elegance of both the venue and the couple. And in particular, Laura, for being such a trooper, since it was really cold!

#16 – Annie and Laurent, Cavallo Point Lodge, Sausalito, CA. Classic wedding under the Golden Gate Bridge at one of our favorite venues, the historic Fort Baker, now the respectfully restored, green and sustainable, Cavallo Point Lodge at Fort Baker.

#17 – Annie and Laurent, Cavallo Point Lodge, Sausalito, CA. First dance as husband and wife. If you are considering investing in creative lighting at your wedding, here is proof positive that it can be a great addition!

#18 – Erika and Andres, Discovery Bay, CA. Their original plan was to use more of a houseboat, but we suggested a more romantic dinghy, and they agreed. Here they are boating on up to their wedding, to the cheers of their guests.

Vote early! Vote often!

Matthew May Photography Wins Bride’s Choice Award…

We’ve won another award; The Wedding Wire Bride’s Choice Award. This means we are in the top 5 percent of 100,000+ wedding professionals. Thank you to our lovely couples who voted for us!

Recent Press

We’re honored with the recent press Matthew May Photography has been getting. We are featured in the January issue of Marin Magazine, from the wedding of Annie and Laurent. There is a write up on pages 48 and 49 about Annie and Laurent’s wedding under the Golden Gate Bridge in Sausalito, and about the crazy way they met. Our photos are sprinkled throughout the magazine, and you can take a peek here.

We also have a photo featured in PDN’s special annual issue, Focus On Weddings. PDN is Photo District News, pretty much THE trade magazine for professional photographers. The photo is an amazing image of Dana and Nick at their beach wedding in Mexico. The photo is part of us being members of SanDisk’s Extreme Team, a group of professional photographers selected by SanDisk for their outstanding work in their respective genre of photography.

And further, we’ve been profiled on Best Destination Wedding Forum’s “Vendor Spotlight”, which you can read about here, and we are part of Planning Elegance’s “Best Venues in San Francisco, Orange County, and Los Angeles” blog, here.

A huge thanks for Marin Magazine, Best Destination Wedding Forum, Planning Elegance, our partners at SanDisk and the SanDisk Extreme Team, but most of all, to our clients Annie, Laurent, Dana and Nick. Like I always say… we couldn’t have done it without them :) .

January 28, 2010 - 10:41 am Danielle - "We knew them when..." Great job guys! You two are going places...but don't forget us little guys when you are shooting spreads for the big magazines :)

January 15, 2010 - 11:37 am Katie - Go MMP!

Save the Date, with style!

We get the best clients. They are so creative. Perhaps we find each other because of our mutual love of the unusual shoots in exotic places.

For example, check out a couple of amazing Save The Date notes we’ve recently received for some upcoming 2010 weddings. The first below was hand-made by Celine (the bride). She made the photo look intentionally aged, then attached the whole thing to a distressed card, and sealed it all up in some sort of yellow-ish texture varnish. Even the string looks “old”. Someone got an A in art class… and could be making movie props! It all ties into their wedding theme of an international, glamorous adventure. So where is Celine and Lee’s wedding going to be? We’ll leave that a mystery for now! But the town is in the photo. Those with eagle eyes, and international “high-roller” flare, will get it.

The second is for Vanessa and Brad’s wedding, which will obviously take place at the historic Great American Music Hall here in San Francisco. How awesome is that??!! A San Francisco musical institution! Their Save the Date is perfect for their music-loving, classic San Francisco-living lifestyle.

We get the best clients. All of them — 2010 is going to be fun!

SuSu and Dan’s life is about to change…

SuSu and Dan, the couple that took us on the amazing adventure thru China for their wedding, are about to be parents. The little boy is just around the corner – we can’t wait to meet him! Congrats SuSu and Dan!

December 30, 2009 - 11:18 pm Suzanne - SuSu, You are absolutely Beautiful!!!! Baby Boy is very lucky to have you and Dan as his mommy and daddy. It is truly wonderful to have captured your wedding and now the beginning of your family.
